Feeling Crafty

I made my own wind chimes out of some extra spoons and a couple of shells that I stole from my mom's decorative display... and assembled using book-binding thread. -It's one of those random inspirations that I need to act on right away, or I'll be irritable for the rest of the day.

New projects and old

On my studio wall I keep an ever-rotating selection of new and old drawings. Provides an opportunity for the past and present to converse a bit. Interesting things come out of it.

Yesterday I returned to drawing turtles. I still have that picture book story in the back of my mind. Someday, maybe something will come of it.

Plus I'm doing a bit of collage work from old drawings, and doing more bookmaking. I'm creating simple hand-bound books to display selections of my favorite sketches.

more wednesday sketches

I continue to work on the design for the children's art instruction book. Writing a little poetry, too. Getting lots of hours at Barnes & Noble, but that makes for significantly less time for my own art. Thankfully, I had Wednesday night free to attend open mic at portfolio and be inspired. The pig-snake-demon is inspired by a poem/story that one talented young man shared. -something about an epic monster battle and the Grateful Dead. Think of Dr. Seusse on (more) drugs :) I want to make an illustrated book with his stories. Such a great imagination!

Wednesday sketches

i just did these two sketches last night while hanging out at Portfolio coffee house during open mic night. Fun times. Lots of talented people. That's Dennis there with the cane. Apparently he got hit by a car on the 4th :( Looks painful, but he works it with style.

Art walk

I'm still recovering from all the stress of last week. It's all worth it though. Here's my work on the wall at the Weaver gallery, and above that, a picture of cool bones from some beautiful dead creature.
